On the summit of Monte Crestagallo at Mondragone, the ruins of the Benedictine monastery of Sant'Anna, founded in the 14th century next to a spring.

On the summit of Monte Crestagallo, above Mondragone, lie the remains of the monastery of Sant'Anna de aquis vivis, whose name recalls a nearby spring believed to be miraculous. In the 14th century some hermits built a little church here; after a donation of land by Queen Sancia of Aragon, in 1342 it became a Benedictine monastery linked first to Subiaco and then to Montecassino. From the 15th century a slow decline began, and today the complex is largely in ruins, awaiting recovery. Among the limestone, we like recognising the Latin-cross church with three apses, the courtyards, the remains of the cloister with its cistern and the dovecote tower. We recommend admiring it respectfully while enjoying the view.
