Marquis's Palace of Ortodonico in Montecorice
- Visit: about 50 min

17th-century palace between fortress and noble residence, next to the medieval tower of Ortodonico, with old olive presses.
This 17th-century palace is the symbol of the fief of Ortodonico, bought in 1556 by the Amoresano family, who made their home here. It was built next to a 13th-century tower, square in plan over four floors with merlons and corbels, and an olive press was also housed inside. We like this blend of defence and everyday life.In 1606 another building was added, and later two more olive presses, a sign of a rich economy based on oil. The palace combines the look of a fortress with the elegance of a noble residence, with portals in large stone blocks, a sandstone staircase and a mullioned window on small marble columns. We recommend taking in its details.
