Pompeii's covered market on the Forum, with a circular pavilion in the middle of the courtyard.
The macellum was Pompeii's food market, overlooking the Forum. Around the courtyard were the shops where meat, fish and other produce were sold.In the centre stood a circular pavilion with a basin, perhaps used for cleaning fish. On the walls there are still traces of the frescoes that decorated the building.
