The great palaestra next to the Amphitheatre of Pompeii, with its swimming pool and plane trees.
The Large Palaestra is a vast courtyard surrounded on three sides by porticoes, where the young people of Pompeii trained. In the centre there was a large swimming pool.The courtyard was shaded by rows of plane trees, and casts of their roots have made it possible to replant them. It often hosts temporary exhibitions.
