Giovan Battista Alfano Vesuvian Museum

At the Vesuvian Museum you discover the volcano through its materials: about 200 samples of rocks and minerals, ash, ejecta, volcanic bombs and fragments of lava from different eruptions, arranged in display cases with their scientific names. We like the idea of seeing up close the matter that shaped this land.The collections are completed by replicas of finds from the Vesuvian area, including the plaster cast of a dog suffocated by the gases in AD 79, a mosaic from the House of the Wild Boar and a loaf of bread in tuff. We recommend pausing at the large backlit images of buildings destroyed by the Plinian eruption.
