The great square at the centre of Pompeii, the heart of public, religious and commercial life.
The Forum was Pompeii's main square, closed to traffic and surrounded by porticoes. Around it stood the Temple of Jupiter, the Basilica, the Macellum, the Building of Eumachia and the city offices.From the centre of the square you see the Temple of Jupiter with Vesuvius behind it: one of the most famous images of the excavations.
