Building of Eumachia

The large building on the Forum of Pompeii donated by the priestess Eumachia.
The building was erected at the behest of Eumachia, a public priestess and one of the most influential women in the city. An inscription on the façade records her donation.It overlooks the Forum with a wide portico and a marble doorway decorated with acanthus scrolls. It was probably linked to the guild of the fullones, Pompeii's launderers and dyers.
