Rock Church of San Silvestro in Sant'Angelo a Scala
- Visit: about 20 min

11th-century rock church on two levels, with coved vaults, a herringbone floor and a hidden bell tower.
Near Sant'Angelo a Scala stands this 11th-century rock church, built in masonry by local craftsmen. It is laid out on two almost rectangular floors, each divided into three rooms covered by coved vaults and connected by an internal masonry staircase. The chapel itself occupies the central room on the ground floor, with the altar at the back, while the bell tower, on the right side, can barely be seen from outside. We like the herringbone stone floor of the lower level. We recommend including it in a walking route through the surrounding greenery.
