17th-century convent where Antonio Genovesi studied, with a cloister, cistern and a carved stone spiral staircase.

Built in the 17th century, the former convent of San Francesco housed the library on which the philosopher and economist Antonio Genovesi, the town's illustrious son, was educated. The 1980 earthquake badly damaged the complex, which was later also stripped of its sacred furnishings and wooden altar.Despite its wounds, it is worth looking at the porticoes and the cloister, with the cistern in the centre fitted with an old gravity-fed water system. We like the carved stone spiral staircase, the niches and the dug-out tunnels. In front opens a large square. Visits are possible by request.
