Caracciolo Castle of Montefredane

The castle dominates the hill around which the medieval village of Montefredane grew and, after the restoration completed in 2023, is in excellent shape. It has a trapezoidal plan with square corner towers and walls of local stone; one tower overlooks the square, and the church of Santa Maria del Carmine rests on its foundations.We like the entrance, which passes under the arch of the church's bell tower. Inside you can see the water cisterns and a snow pit, while the restoration brought two more towers to light. We also recommend looking for the amphitheatre set in a natural hollow on the east side, used for cultural events.
