Now in its 54th edition, the Chestnut Festival of Sicignano degli Alburni is one of the oldest in the Salerno area. The village, perched at the foot of the Alburni mountains and crowned by its castle, opens the lanes of its old town for two festive weekends.
Chestnuts star in sweet and savoury form: hot soups, grilled meats, roast chestnuts, castagnaccio and tarts made to farmhouse recipes. Alongside the stalls there are local craft displays, music and shows, in a family-friendly atmosphere. Entry is free.
Our tip: Sicignano is easy to reach from the motorway exit of the same name. We suggest pairing the festival with a visit to the nearby Pertosa-Auletta or Castelcivita caves.
