In Mugnano del Cardinale, in the Baiano area, the feast of Saint Lucy begins with fire. For weeks the young people of the Fucarone di Santa Lucia e Sant'Aniello group gather dry branches in the countryside and tie them into bundles, the sarcinelli, to build a huge pyre in Piazza Umberto I.

On the night before 13 December the village keeps vigil around the stack with braziers, grilled meat and sausages. Before dawn the statues of Saint Lucy and Saint Aniello are brought to the square and, after the six o'clock mass, the parish priest lights the bonfire at around seven. Local treats include the dried-fig «pupatella» and torrone.

13 December is a fixed date; the 2026 times still need to be confirmed. We suggest arriving the evening before to share the vigil.
