From 22 December to 5 January the Teatro di San Carlo celebrates Christmas with The Nutcracker, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet that has been part of the holidays in theatres around the world for over a century. There are also midday performances on 24 and 31 December.

The choreography is by Simone Valastro, with the San Carlo Ballet dancing to music played by the theatre's orchestra, conducted by Andriy Yurkevych and Maurizio Agostini. From the Waltz of the Flowers to the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, it is the perfect show to see as a family.

We recommend the midday performances on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve: they leave your evening free for dinner and for the party in Piazza del Plebiscito, right next to the theatre.
