On 1 January the Teatro Verdi in Salerno opens the year with the Gran Gala di Capodanno: the Filarmonica Giuseppe Verdi orchestra plays waltzes and polkas by the Strauss family and other Viennese favourites, in the tradition of New Year's Day concerts. There are two performances, at 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm.
The soloists and conductor have not yet been announced. The gala closes the Musica d'Artista programme that runs alongside the Luci d'Artista illuminations.
We recommend the 6.30 pm show: when you come out the lights are on, and you can stroll along Lungomare Trieste and through the old town before dinner, a fine way to end the holidays in Salerno.
