In Salerno the night of 31 December is celebrated by the sea: the Capodanno in piazza organised by the City of Salerno takes place in Piazza della Libertà, in front of the Crescent, one of the largest seafront squares in Italy. Entry is free.
In recent years the Salerno stage has hosted big names in Italian music; this year's headliner has not yet been announced and the programme is coming soon. The party falls during the Luci d'Artista light festival, which makes the city one of the most popular destinations for the end-of-year holidays.
We suggest arriving by train, as the station is close to the seafront, and having dinner in the old town before heading to the square for the countdown.
