On 19 January Castellammare di Stabia celebrates its patron saint, San Catello, a seventh-century bishop of Stabia. It is the town's most heartfelt feast, preceded by days of preparation: the Arch of San Catello is lit up and the town dresses for the occasion.

On the feast day morning, the procession with the saint's statue winds through the old town and reaches the shipyard, symbol of Stabia's seafaring tradition, before returning to the Cathedral for solemn Mass. In 2025 the day also featured a local produce market and an evening concert in a church in the old centre.

Our tip: combine the feast with a stroll along the seafront and a visit to the excavations of the Roman villas of Stabiae.
