The Chestnut Festival of Civitella Licinio, a hamlet of Cusano Mutri perched on the slopes of the Matese, celebrates its 40th edition this year. Over two weekends the old centre of this small Sannio village fills with stalls, music and events devoted to autumn's signature fruit.
The festival blends food, culture, nature and music: chestnuts from the surrounding woods star in country dishes and sweets, while the lanes take on the feel of a true village feast. It is organised by the Pro Loco Civitella Licinio, with the support of the town council and the provincial Pro Loco union.
Our tip: drive up in the afternoon and enjoy the view over the Titerno valley before sitting down to eat.
