Teano is one of the oldest towns in Caserta province: ancient Teanum Sidicinum left a Roman theatre and a rich archaeological museum, and its name is linked to the 1860 meeting between Garibaldi and Victor Emmanuel II. At the end of October, though, the old town smells of cocoa thanks to Cioccolateano, celebrating its 20th edition this year.

On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October the streets fill with stalls of artisan chocolate: bars, pralines and creations to taste and take home, alongside tastings, craft stalls, music and shows. It is organised by the Pro Loco of Teano; entry is free and you only pay for what you taste or buy.

Our tip: combine the festival with a visit to the archaeological museum and the Roman theatre, for a day that mixes history and indulgence.
