Apice Vecchia, in Sannio, is a ghost village: it was abandoned after the 1962 earthquake, and its empty houses still tell a chapter of inland Campania's history. At its heart stands the Castello dell'Ettore, which for several years has hosted Christmas markets on the weekends before Christmas (the fifth edition was in 2025).
Within the castle walls you'll find stalls of crafts and local produce, decorations and entertainment for children, in a fairy-tale atmosphere made all the more unusual by the silence of the village around it.
The 2026 dates have not been published yet: recent editions ran from mid-November weekends to December ones. We suggest booking and taking a short walk through the village, respecting a place that still bears the marks of the earthquake.
