John Coltrane was born on 23 September 1926, and the jazz department of Avellino's Domenico Cimarosa Conservatory marks the centenary by closing its Avellino Jazz al Castello series with a concert devoted to the saxophonist behind A Love Supreme and Giant Steps.
On Thursday 29 October at 7 pm, in the Conservatory's Auditorium Vitale, two saxophonists, Andrea Pace and Giovanna Pazienza, take the stage with Nicola Puglielli on guitar, Tommaso Scannapieco on bass and Pietro Iodice on drums: musicians who have been teaching and playing on the Campania jazz scene for years. The series began in summer in Piazza Castello and moved indoors for the autumn. Entry is free.
We point it out because it is the easiest way to discover Avellino's lively music scene, in a city whose conservatory is among the most active in southern Italy.
