Some places seem made for two. Campania has many: terraces over the sea for watching the sunset, alleys to get lost in, boats to deserted coves, wineries to raise a glass in. Whether it's an anniversary, a weekend escape or simply the wish to be together, here are our ideas.
The Amalfi Coast: the great classic
Amalfi, Positano, Ravello and Atrani are the most romantic stops. Our advice: stay at least three nights, travel between towns by boat, go up to Ravello for the gardens and come down to the sea at the end of the day. The Path of the Gods, walked early in the morning, offers unforgettable views.
Islands for two
- Capri: elegant and dramatic, perfect for a special evening.
- Procida: authentic and colourful, quieter and less expensive.
- Ischia: to combine sea and wellbeing, among gardens and thermal pools.
Cilento at sunset
For romance without crowds, Cilento is perfect: Castellabate, with its hilltop village and the sea of Santa Maria, and Palinuro, with its natural arch and caves to explore by boat. Summer evenings have a slow rhythm that invites you to stay.
Among vineyards and villages
In autumn the hills of Irpinia and Sannio change colour: a tasting of Taurasi or Fiano at a winery, a night in a country house, dinner with produce from the garden.
Naples, a city for two
Naples surprises couples too: the seafront at sunset with Vesuvius opposite, Borgo Marinari, the viewpoints of Posillipo and Vomero, the lanes of the historic centre. A pizza shared on the seafront is worth as much as an elegant dinner.
Ideas and tips
- Low season: April, May, September and October are more romantic, with fewer crowds.
- A boat just for you: on the Amalfi Coast, in Capri and in Cilento you can hire a boat with skipper even for half a day.
- Wellness: a day at the spa is a perfect gift.
