Getting married in a historic villa in Campania: how to choose

Veduta di Ravello

A historic villa turns a wedding into a unique event: gardens, frescoed halls, terraces and private chapels tell centuries of history and frame every moment of the day. In Campania the choice is wide and very different from area to area. In this guide we help you find your way and ask the right questions before booking.

Three types of villa, three atmospheres

  • Seaside villas: on the Amalfi Coast, the Sorrento peninsula and the islands. Panoramic terraces, cliff-top gardens, spectacular sunsets. Spaces are often on several levels, with limited capacity.
  • Palaces and noble residences: in Naples, around Caserta and in historic town centres. Halls, courtyards and monumental staircases, ideal for elegant receptions even in autumn and winter.
  • Estates and farmhouses: in Irpinia, Sannio, Cilento and upper Caserta. Lawns, vineyards, olive groves and large outdoor spaces, perfect for big, country-style weddings.

Questions to ask before choosing

  1. Real capacity: how many guests seated outdoors and indoors, in case of rain?
  2. Exclusive use: is the villa yours for the whole day, or are there other events?
  3. Ceremony: can the civil ceremony be held at the villa? Some towns recognise external venues for civil weddings; check with the town hall.
  4. Catering: in-house, approved external caterers or free choice?
  5. Music and times: until what time can music play? Are there volume limits?
  6. Accessibility: steps, ramps, parking, shuttle service for guests.
  7. Accommodation: does the villa have rooms? Are there hotels nearby for guests?

Logistics: the point not to underestimate

On the Amalfi Coast and the islands roads are narrow and parking scarce: you need shuttles, sometimes transfers by sea. At country estates the distances from hotels can be long. Plan transport from the start, as it greatly affects costs and guests' comfort.

Budget and season

Costs vary a lot by area, season and day of the week. The most requested months are May, June and September; a Friday or October wedding can cost noticeably less. Always ask what is included: set-up, tables, lighting, staff, cleaning.
