Travel over 65 in Campania: comfort, culture and wellbeing

Veduta di Sorrento

After 65 you travel with more time and more curiosity, often out of season and without the rush of those with only a few days off. Campania is perfect: a mild climate almost all year round, spas, art cities, genuine food and many options for long stays. Here are our tips for a comfortable, easy-going trip.

Where to go

  • Sorrento: a flat town centre, a seafront and boat connections to Capri, Naples and the Amalfi Coast. An excellent base.
  • Ischia: spas, gardens and long stays in spring and autumn.
  • Naples: museums, churches and theatres; choose central accommodation to reduce travel.
  • Caserta: the Royal Palace can be visited calmly, and the park has a shuttle service.
  • Salerno: a flat seafront and a lively old town, handy for boat trips to the Amalfi Coast.

Culture without effort

Many sites have easier routes: the excavations at Herculaneum are more compact than Pompeii; at Paestum the temples stand on flat ground. Boat trips along the Amalfi Coast let you see the towns from the sea without climbing steps and slopes.

Wellness and spas

The spas of Ischia, Contursi, Telese and Agnano (Naples) offer treatments and relaxation. Ask your doctor before starting spa treatments.

Practical tips

  • Best seasons: April, May, September and October. In summer avoid the hottest hours.
  • Accessibility: the villages of the Amalfi Coast are full of steps. Always ask the property about lifts and the distance from transport stops.
  • Long stays: in low season many properties offer weekly or monthly rates.
  • Concessions: some museums and transport services offer reductions; check the official websites.
  • Organised tours: for Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi Coast a tour with transfers saves a lot of effort.
