Solo travel in Campania: freedom, encounters and discoveries

Veduta di Napoli

Travelling alone is one of the best experiences there is: you choose everything, change plans whenever you like and meet people you would never meet as a couple or in a group. Campania, with its open and talkative people, is perfect for solo travellers. Here are our ideas.

Naples, the ideal city for travelling alone

Naples is easy to explore on foot and by public transport, full of life at all hours and packed with things to see. Walking tours of the historic centre and underground tours are a great way to meet other travellers. In the evening the central neighbourhoods and the seafront are lively and welcoming.

Group experiences

  • Cooking and pizza classes: you learn, you eat and you make friends.
  • Organised excursions to Pompeii, Vesuvius and the Amalfi Coast.
  • Shared boat trips to Capri, along the Amalfi Coast and in Cilento.
  • Wine tastings in Irpinia and Sannio, often offered in small groups.

Walking alone (but not too alone)

The Path of the Gods and the trails of Cilento are popular and well marked: you walk alone but always meet other hikers. For more isolated routes it's better to join a group or a guide.

Where to stay

B&Bs and small family-run properties are perfect for solo travellers: the owners give precious tips and you often share breakfast with other guests. Hostels and guesthouses are a good option on a budget. Search our Where to stay section.

Practical and safety tips

  • Single rooms: always ask, many properties have dedicated rates.
  • Transport: regional trains, the Circumvesuviana and ferries let you get around without a car.
  • Watch your wallet in crowded places, as in any big city.
  • Share your plans with someone at home when hiking alone.

Check our events calendar for festivals where you can meet new people.
